Whiskey reviews, in brief:

1) Tyrconnell Irish Single malt – bright, and metallic/bloody taste, sweet malty nose with light fruit, lingering peppery finish. Drink it as a standalone, or pair it with freshwater fish or poultry. This is really everything I want from an Irish malt.

2) Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition: Finished in a stout barrel, as opposed to a sherry or port barrel. Graces the Jameson blend with smokey malt and adds a stouty sweetness to the bright grain finish. The nose… I could break down the various components, really, it’s like smelling an old bar just after last call, in really good way. The stout components remind me more of the bottled Guinness export stout we had in the US prior than the draught-flow stuff.
Flavorwise, it’s distinctly the Jameson profile with the added, chocolate and coffee stout notes, with just a hint of that export stout bitterness that ties it all together.
